Taree Rescue Squad

A MISSING toddler has been found safe and well on the New South Wales mid-north coast.

The 22-month-old girl, wearing just a nappy and a vest, was reported missing from her family's property which covers several hectares at Wingham, near Taree, at 3pm (AEDT) yesterday, police said. Emergency services were alerted at 4.30pm yesterday and police started a search of nearby creeks and bushland. About 10.30am today a local resident found the toddler near a road about 2km from her family's home and she has been reunited with her family. She was suffering minor scratches to her legs but was otherwise safe and well. The State Emergency Service, firefighters and Taree Volunteer Rescue Association assisted police in the overnight search. Emergency services and officers from the Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command, including land search co-ordinators, began the search in the girl’s home, creeks and nearby bushland. They were joined by firefighters, the VRA and SES in a multi-agency search. Police called for a dog squad, specialist divers and helicopters to assist in the search of the property which covers several acres.
